Final Blog Assignment

Three consequences of learning about the international early childhood field are:

I am more aware of issues that affect children around the world.

Being aware of these issues make me want to advocate for children.

I have realized that I take many things for granted. When I hear about how some children have to struggle to receive an education or they are denied the opportunity of an education it makes me more appreciative of the opportunities that I have had and that my students have.

One goal I have  for this field is that each country would develop standards that a high quality program should meet.  Educators from different countries should convene and compare standards and methods and use ideas from each other to improve their own standards and teaching methods.

  1. Hi Karina, That is a lofty goal to create world standards for EC programs. I would first like to see the United States reach a consensus about what a quality EC program should look like. However, being in contact with educators from around the world would help us keep our goals and standards in perspective. Best of luck next term, Michelle

  2. I can honestly say that I too have taken many things for granted. In our country school is obviously something that is required till you reach college, however, in other countries is not. Instead of going to school many children become street vendors trying to earn money for their family. This course has truly opened my eyes to world issues amongst students, families and the early childhood field.

  3. Karina,
I enjoyed reading your final blog. I wish you well and I hope that you reach your goal. It would have been nice to interact and talk with a professional from a different part of the world. I would have loved to share ideas and to see what issues occur in other countries in the early childhood field.

  4. Yes Karina,

We often times take for granted a lot of opportunities and don't always count our blessings like we should. We are so blessed is several ways being that children and families and from other countries don't have the same opportunities and privileges as we do. It is amazing how God put us in a class that surrounded findings of how other families live across the world. It really makes us appreciate and value things more. While viewing several websites including those that my colleagues choose to view, helped me to realize and and become knowledgeable of a lot of things with your blog page being one of my favorites to view. Not only did you find helpful and interesting information on different websites but you also inspired me through your post of how you felt about them. I wish you well in your all endeavors and I pray the information we obtained during the course of this class continues to help us both personally and professionally while we travel this journey of life trying to grow in every way we can. Good luck to you and God bless!
